I'm back! Did you miss me? |
I'm updating this from reading other people's twitter accounts. It will mostly be a summaries and quick rundowns of all the "good" stuff.
The jury is made up of 6 men and 12 women.
The judge says that the trial is expected to last until December 18. uh huh.
The judge told the jury: "It is for you as jurors to decide what you individually believe is moral and just," Stephens said.
Then.....Recess is called
These idiots are not going to make me miss my tea time |
Defense opening. Nurmi!
"Most of the evidence you will hear in this case will be based on the relationship Jodi Arias and Travis Alexander had," Nurmi said. "The story of this relationship is one of tragedy, one of friendship, one of spirituality, one of lust and one of passion," Nurmi said. Nurmi: "You will read, hear and see sexually graphic evidence throughout this trial." Nurmi warned the jury they will see "close up shots of her anus." Nurmi: "Most of the evidence will relate to the evidence, but some of it will relate to who Jodi Arias was and who Travis Alexander was ... because understanding who they are will help you understand what happened."
Poor Nurmi |
Now Nurmi goes into details about Travis' job at Pre-paid Legal and his horrible childhood.
Then he tells the jury that Jodi had a horrible childhood too. (We all remember how mom liked to beat her with the wooden spoon. LOL)
"This mentally ill young girl ... met Travis Alexander at this convention and fell in love," Nurmi said.
He's on the Jodi diet |
"She will tell you how horrified she was when she killed the man she loved," Nurmi said.
Yep, she really loved him. |
Defense closes
State's opening. Juan is up.
Juan Martinez: "You will come to know the emotional and mental suffering..." Nurmi objected.
Juan shows a picture of Travis' cut throat and says“This is how much she loved him,”
The attorneys are at a sidebar with the judge.
This bitch is going DOWN1 |
Martinez: "She took his body, dragged it down a hallway and stuffed it in a shower."
"She told the court she was shaving her pussy so it could be nice and soft for him and that if he was good, she would give him a blowjob and he could come on her face," Martinez said.
"She had a plan. It wasn't spur of the moment," Martinez said.
He then explains about the gas cans and her car rental.
"She shows up with a gun," Martinez said of Arias arriving at Alexander's house. Then he talks about the photographs that were taken.
"When you get stabbed it hurts, but you don't die immediately," Martinez said. "During that time Mr. Alexander was conscious...the scene shows there is blood everywhere."
Juan is describing how Alexander was killed and how Jodi tried to clean up the scene. "She pretended to be concerned about Mr. Alexander. She sent him an email [after the killing]," Martinez said. "I wasn't even there," Martinez said of Arias' initial statement to police.
Martinez is now describing Arias second story -- where she blamed the killing on a home invasion.
Sidebar
Martinez said borderline personality disorder -- which Arias was previously diagnosed with -- is not a mental illness. "The defendant has admitted to lying to police and that's a crime," Martinez said, in reference to the defenses earlier statement that Arias had no prior criminal record.
Court is in recess until 4:45
Nurmi wants a mistrial. Denied\
A motion to air opening statements on television has been denied. The jury has not been brought in yet. The attorneys are at a sidebar with the judge..
Juan is back up.
He says the stories of abuses come from Jodi's mouth. "This is just the word of an individual telling you that," Martinez said of the abuse the defense claims Alexander inflicted on Arias. "There are no mitigating circumstances in this case. None," Martinez said.
Nurmi accused Martinez of being argumentative and asked for a mistrial, again. The judge denied the request.
The state has called its first witness -- Michael Melendez, of the Mesa Police Department. Melendez is assigned to the Computer Forensics Unit. He recovered the deleted photos from the digital camera that was found in the washing machine at Alexander's house. He talks about how cameras work
Martinez just showed the jury one of the images recovered from the digital camera card -- an image that shows Alexander dead on the floor. It is dated 5:42 p.m., June 4, 2008.
Boom!+ |
Juan then starts showing the jury all the photos that were found on the camera.
Nurmi is up. He starts questioning Michael about the work he did on the camera and laptop. Michael left that job in Nov 2008.
Juan is back up. "Is that pornography," Martinez asked the witness during redirect, as he showed a nude photo of Arias on the screen. The witness answered yes, to which Nurmi objected, citing relevance. The judge overruled the objection. Michael said he didn't find any porn on Travis' computer.
The state has called detective Esteban Flores. Flores answers basic questions about the case.
Nurmi asks for a sidebar, so the court recessed for 15 minutes
Flores is back after recess and they discuss all the washer items found and they go over a blueprint of the house. Flores says they didn't find a gun and Flores says that the dog was taken by a friend of the family. They go through the countless photos of Travis' house. Juan then starts showing photos of Travis' body in the shower. "That's the condition it was found in," Flores said of a photo showing Alexander's partially decomposed body. Travis' sisters look away in court. Flores explains that there was blood everywhere in the bathroom. One of the Arias jurors is using a scarf to cover her mouth as Martinez shows the Autopsy photos in court.
Court is finished for the day.
